I've stayed here many times, but this most recent experience was probably the best. Centrally located, easily walkable to anything in the downtown core. I chose to upgrade to an executive corner room during what was likely a slow weekend before Thanksgiving. The room was spotless and an unexpected fruit and dessert plate was waiting for me upon my arrival. Staff was gracious and attentive. I am an elite with Marriott, but not a top level. Lovely.

Special shout out to the staff at Trade on the lobby level. Breakfast service was great. Chris at the bar during the evening was not only a great bartender, but also someone you'd be fortunate to get to know a bit.

The hotel has changed ownership and for the better. They are definitely my go-to in San Diego. Thank you lovely people!~

First time visiting San Diego and decided to stay at Hotel Republic. First interaction was with the amazing valet staff. I wish I wrote down his name but a young blonde guy helped me and my son with getting our rental parked and held the door. VERY friendly and helpful. I wish I knew all the names of the valet staff to individually thank them all but the 3 names I was able to write down were Julian, Angel, & Christopher. They were amazing. Walking into the hotel you are greeted with a wonderful scent and beautiful style. The front end staff (which again I wish I had names!!-we checked in on 10/25 around 3:00 PM, if hotel management can track them down and give them my shout out LOL). The young man and woman who helped get my son and I checked in were so friendly. I loved the interaction because my son and the woman. They made us feel very welcomed. Location of the hotel was perfect-only a few minutes from the airport.|Our room was clean and cozy! We had a city view on the 12th floor. I plan on coming back to San Diego and no question we will be staying at Hotel Republic! Thank you again!!

We spent two nights ar the Hotel Republic. Given the price tag we maybe had slightly bigger expectations than what was presented to us. Staff is efficient but not overly friendly, room was upper average in terms of size and comfort. What's really offputting is the old and stained carpet in the hallways. That would be a quick and reasonable fix. Would have given 4 stars but the obviously fake and purchased reviews in past few months led me to calibrate.

This review is a little delayed but worth writing. We spent a few days here over Labor Day weekend and had a fabulous time--thank you team! Great location and walking distance to everything. The staff was top notch and the cocktails and food were excellent! Special shout outs to the following staff for making our stay pleasurable and top notch:

CARLOS (bartender) - great conversation, excellent cocktails, and very efficient.

JEFF (manager) - friendly and did what he could to make our stay comfortable

OLGA (front desk) - friendly and welcoming

RONNEISHA (Club Lounge) - friendly, hustled, and made sure that there was plenty of food. =)

VALET DEPARTMENT - kudos to all! Our car was always ready when we needed it (didn't' have to wait) and was greeted with many smiles throughout our trip.

ONLY DRAWBACK: The only drawback was the random heatwave that San Diego was experiencing. The fitness facility and rooms were a little warm but it was nearly 100 degrees during this fluke heatwave.

Ah, this hotel. Where do I even begin? Checking in here is like trying to board an international flight with expired documents—it’s unnecessarily complicated, wildly stressful, and you’ll probably end up sleeping on the floor.

First, the staff. If you’re looking for warm welcomes and friendly faces, try… literally anywhere else. They’ve mastered the art of the blank stare and “Not my job” is apparently their favorite phrase.

Now, about check-in. If every single person in your group isn’t listed on the reservation exactly as it appears on their ID—first name, last name, middle initial, maybe even astrological sign—forget about getting a room. Rules are rules, even if they make zero sense.

Once you’re in (and that’s a big if), prepare for a masterclass in cutting corners. Need an extra towel? Get ready for a scavenger hunt. Ask for it once, they’ll ignore you. Twice? Maybe they’ll “look into it.” Three times? Congratulations, you’ve unlocked Level One in the Hotel Frustration Olympics.

And as for the “Marriott standard”? Yeah, no. This is more like the “Marriott’s distant cousin who no one invites to family reunions” standard. Save yourself the trouble. Book somewhere else.

I truly cannot say enough about this spot.

I pulled up after a 4 hour drive to the hotel. The friendly Valet helped me navigate the situation and I walked inside to check in. Within 2 minutes, I had my room keys, breakfast vouchers, and was told that I also get $25/day to use at restaurants on the property.

I got up to my room and was very happy with what I saw. I get why this id part of the Autograph Collection of Marriott. Finishes in this room are top notch, pendant lights next to each side of the comfy king sized bed, unique shower and bathroom, and it is very quiet.

I hammered out some emails and enjoyed my room for a couple of hours and then used the QR code on the valet ticket to retrieve my car. It was about a 5 min wait.

When I returned, I went to the bar where the super friendly bartender chatted us all up and gave me some good dinner recommendations for while I’m here.

The staff here really care a lot and you can tell. It’s nice to find that. I will absolutely stay here again and so should you!

5/5 All around. Loved the lovely scent as soon as you enter the lobby. Loved the overall decor in the public areas as well as the hotel rooms. Loved the mirrors and trendy furniture in our room and how comfortable the beds and premium bedding/pillows were. Also loved the designer toiletries they provide. I am now trying to find that Gilchrist & Soames shampoo and conditioner that made my hair feel and look healthy, soft and silky :-D.

The whole staff was amazing! Exceptional service IMO including the staff at the rooftop restaurant Topside Terrace. The menu has healthy options and all 4 items we had were delicious.

So convenient that this is just a couple of blocks from Santa Fe Depot and perfect location, walking distance to Little Italy, Seaport Village, Gaslamp Quarter.

Huge thanks to the staff! Keep up the great work! Highly recommended!

Check in was at 4:00 and they said they needed 30 more minutes for cleaning, but then they kept pushing back saying they were still cleaning. We didn’t get into the room until 6:00. We cancelled our dinner reservations and missed the first 7 innings of the Padres game. We didn’t want to check bags because we had valuables, and because they kept leading us to believe the room was almost ready.

When we got back to the room later that night, we ordered sparkling water from room service. It required a bottle opener but it didn’t come with a bottle opener. I called and asked for one, 20 minutes went by and no one came, so I had to call again and then they finally brought it.

This stay was a birthday present for my wife and it was the WORST hotel experience we’ve ever had.

I complained multiple times and only then was comped $60 toward the hotel (which was $400 total) and they comped the overpriced $60 valet. I feel that a 50% comp was owed under the circumstances. I complained to the front office manager, but they wouldn’t or couldn’t give me any additional comp. The manager Nelson Barrios dodged my calls and did not respond to my emails. I submitted a complaint to corporate and nothing was done.

The area also has a lot of homelessness and feels unsafe at night, which is why they charge $60 for valet, because the self-parking options in the area are risky. This is a predatory business practice.

All in all, a terrible experience and I highly recommend staying anywhere else if you’re going to San Diego!
